We want everyone your customers ask for feedback to be able to answer, and every teammate to be able to build a survey.

Standard

We aim for WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

Scope

This statement covers:
  • The survey page opened from a personal invitation link.
  • The embedded survey.
  • The in-app survey widget (surveys.js).
  • Survey invitation and reminder emails.
  • The survey designer in GainTrace.
It doesn’t cover the rest of the GainTrace app, your own pages that host the in-app widget, or custom CSS and brand colors you add.

Status

GainTrace surveys partially conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partially conform means some parts don’t fully meet the standard yet.
This is a self-assessment by GainTrace. No third party has audited it, and we haven’t yet tested with a screen reader.
The criterion-by-criterion result is in the Accessibility Conformance Report.

How we test

  • Automated axe-core checks on twelve respondent states that cover ten of the eleven question types (Multiple choice is not yet scanned), against the WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level A and AA rules, in a simulated browser without layout. Color contrast and target size are not checked there.
  • Unit tests for keyboard use, focus, announcements, right-to-left layout and the in-app widget.
  • A contrast test of invitation emails in dark-mode inboxes.
  • Code review against each criterion.
A browser check in Chromium at desktop and phone widths exists, but no run of it is on record yet.

What works today

  • One question per screen, with the question as the heading and focus moved to it.
  • Every answer type can be used with a keyboard. Space picks a score and Enter confirms it. Ranking has Move up and Move down buttons.
  • Errors are named next to the field.
  • The page language and right-to-left direction are set for the survey’s language.
  • The in-app widget announces itself, closes with Escape and returns focus to your page.
  • Email score buttons stay readable in dark-mode inboxes.

Known limitations

  • No screen-reader pass yet with NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack.
  • Color contrast, target size, reflow and text spacing aren’t measured in a real browser yet (WCAG 1.4.3, 1.4.10, 1.4.11, 1.4.12, 2.5.8).
  • A brand color you choose sets the selected answer and the focus ring. GainTrace guarantees contrast only for text on that color, not for the color against the page (1.4.11).
  • Custom CSS can reduce contrast or hide focus.
  • Tapping a score with a mouse or finger moves straight to the next screen, while the keyboard confirms with Enter. Customers can go Back to change it (3.2.2).
  • The AI follow-up label and its disclosure are always English and aren’t marked as English inside a translated survey, (3.1.2).
  • Pressing ? opens the GainTrace keyboard shortcuts panel on survey pages and in the survey designer, and it can’t be turned off (2.1.4).
  • CSAT faces show a word inside each answer, but the accessible name is the number, so speech-input users can’t say the visible word (2.5.3).
  • The automated scan doesn’t yet include the Multiple choice question type.
  • The survey designer has no automated accessibility scan yet.

Technical requirements

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, with JavaScript on. The in-app widget runs inside your page.

Feedback

If something on a survey or in the survey designer doesn’t work for you, email [email protected] with the survey link and what went wrong.
